Two massive brush fires in Florida shut down Interstate 95 in Palm Beach County and Southwest Eighth Street in Miami-Dade County on Sunday.
The northbound and southbound lanes of I-95 in Palm Beach Gardens were closed in both directions for about five hours due to smoke, Florida Highway Patrol officials said.

The two brushfires have burned about 700 acres. No structures have been affected.
The fire near The Gardens Mall was mostly contained at about 6 p.m., according to Palm Beach Gardens officials. I-95 reopened in both directions from Donald Ross to Northlake Boulevard at about 9 p.m. EST.
Dry air and wind conditions have enabled the flames to burn more intensely, according to AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Kristina Pydynowski. Winds at the nearby Palm Beach International Airport have been blowing consistently from the east at 15-25 mph since Sunday morning with gusts up to 35 mph.

Similar winds will persist through at least Monday with strong high pressure moving off the East Coast.
"These winds can continue to cause smoke from the blaze to stream westward and create issues for firefighters," Pydynowski said. "The one positive is that the winds are ushering in moisture from the Atlantic Ocean, which is leading to spotty showers in the vicinity."
Other dangers the winds are bringing to the area are rough seas and a high rip current danger.
In addition to the Palm Beach and Miami-Dade brush fires, multiple fires were being reported at 5 p.m. EST in Lehigh Acres in Southwest Florida, with evacuations being advised.

My friend just sent me these photos of the brush fire in Palm Beach Gardens that started early this afternoon.
