Weather Underground midday recap for Monday,September 12,2016

A frontal system moved across the Intermountain West and the Plains on Monday, while scattered storms developed in the Southeast.

A cold frontal boundary stretched southwestward across the upper Mississippi Valley, the northern Plains, the central Plains and the Intermountain West. As this frontal boundary collided with warm and humid air, stormy weather broke out across the Plains. Flood warnings were issued in parts of northern Missouri and southeast Kansas. A cool air mass trailed this frontal boundary and settled in over the northern high Plains and the upper Intermountain West. This cool air supported the development of high elevation snow in the northern Rockies. Winter weather advisories were issued for northern Wyoming. Freeze warnings were also issued in northwest North Dakota. Stanley, Idaho, recorded a morning low of 26 degrees. Thermopolis, Wyo., recorded a morning low of 32 degrees.

Meanwhile, monsoonal thunderstorms fired up across the lower Intermountain West, the Desert Southwest and the southern high Plains. Severe thunderstorm warnings were issued in northwest New Mexico.

To the east, the remnants of a frontal boundary interacted with tropical moisture, which lead to the development of rain and thunderstorms across the Southeast. A severe thunderstorm warning was issued in northwest Georgia, while flood advisories were issued in northwest South Carolina. Conway, S.C., reported a midday total of 1.44 inches of rain. New Bern, N.C., reported a midday total of 1.99 inches of rain.

High pressure kept most areas across the Midwest and the Northeast dry. Temperatures dropped into the 30s across parts of New England on Monday. Berlin, N.H., recorded a morning low of 36 degrees.
