On the heels of largely dry weather to end the workweek, rounds of wind and rain may spoil weekend plans in the United Kingdom this weekend.
Rain will spread over Northern Ireland and Scotland on Friday night and continue through the day on Saturday with some locally heavy rainfall possible.
Accompanying the rain, gusty southwest winds will howl throughout much of the U.K. on Saturday. Frequent gusts to 30 mph (48 km/h) are expected across Wales, northern England and Scotland. Coastal areas and higher elevations could see wind gusts over 40 mph (64 km/h).
Rain will reach southwest England, Wales and northern England Saturday afternoon before advancing eastward across the rest of the U.K. Saturday night into Sunday.
A brief period of rain is possible at the Southhampton Boat Show Saturday night with a brief shower or two lingering into Sunday.
Ahead of this rainfall, temperatures will be well above normal on Saturday across much of England and Wales. The high is expected to be near 22 C (72 F) in London and the Southeast with high temperatures approaching 20 C (68 F) around Manchester.
More seasonable temperatures are expected across the rest of the U.K. on Saturday.
Cooler air will move across the entire U.K. on Sunday, knocking temperatures to below normal levels in the north and west and near normal elsewhere.

Along with the cooler air it will remain windy throughout the U.K. with frequent gusts to 30 mph (48 km/h), making it feel even colder at times.
Scattered showers will occur across the region with the most widespread rainfall expected in Northern Ireland, Wales, northwest England and western Scotland.
The combination of showers and wind will make for less-than-ideal conditions as runners take on the Great Bristol Half Marathon on Sunday morning. Temperatures will range from 13-15 C (56-59 F) during the event.
Another storm system will then target the U.K. with additional wind and rain on Monday and Tuesday.
