Orlene Weakens to a Tropical Storm Again; No Threat to Land in the Eastern Pacific

Orlene has weakened to a tropical storm again, after briefly regaining hurricane status Thursday afternoon in the eastern Pacific Ocean. The system poses no threat to land.
Here's the latest from the National Hurricane Center:
  • Orlene was located over 900 miles west of the southern tip of Baja California, as of Thursday evening.
  • This system is no threat to any land areas.
  • Orlene became a Category 1 hurricane again Thursday afternoon before weakening back to tropical-storm-strength Thursday evening.
  • Orlene rapidly intensified in the 24 hours ending Monday morning at 2:00 a.m. PDT. Wind speeds increased from 40 mph (35 knots) to 80 mph (70 knots) during that time. Rapid intensification is when maximum sustained winds increase by at least 30 knots (about 35 mph) in 24 hours or less.
