Weather Underground Forecast for Thursday, February 12, 2015
A low pressure system will slide across the Northeast on Thursday, while a ridge of high pressure will build over the eastern Pacific.
An area of low pressure will shift over the northern Mid-Atlantic and New England. This system will usher light to moderate snow showers over the Ohio Valley, the interior Mid-Atlantic and interior New England. Moderate to heavy snow showers will be possible along the coast of New England as the low pressure system draws moisture from the Atlantic. An arctic high pressure system will settle behind the low pressure system, bringing cold, blustery conditions to the Northeast. Wind chill watches are in place across northern Pennsylvania and New York. A calm weather pattern will persist over the Deep South and the Southeast on Thursday.
Meanwhile, a separate system will skim across the north central portion of the country. Although this system will be focused over southern Canada, light snow showers will be possible over the northern Plains and the upper Midwest.
Out west, an onshore flow from the Pacific will bring chances of rain to the northern tier of the Pacific Northwest. A mixture of rain and snow will be possible along the higher elevations of the northern Cascades. A ridge of high pressure will remain parked over the eastern Pacific. This system will keep conditions warm and dry across the Great Basin and the Southwest. Temperatures will jump into the 80s across the Desert Southwest on Thursday.
