Philadelphia will face a mix of flurries, howling winds and frigid air before evolving into a milder weekend.
Morning commuters could deal with a light coating of snow on area roads Thursday morning, but travel should not be heavily impacted, according to AccuWeather.com Meteorologist Maggie Samuhel.
Thursday will develop into a bitterly cold day with biting winds of 20 to 30 mph. Combined with the strong gusts and cloudy skies, AccuWeather RealFeel® temperatures could hit near the 20 F mark.
Through the night, overnight lows will tumble into the teens in the metro area.

Though sunshine will return and skies will settle on Friday, the cold air will linger in the city but may not be as harsh.
"Winds will generally subside and conditions will feel perceivably warmer," Samuhel said.
The expected daytime high is right around the 20 F mark. Overnight temperatures will begin to trend closer to the usual low of 26 degrees.

As the weekend kicks off, mostly cloudy skies will dominate. Saturday will bring a rise in temperatures with an expected high near the usual daytime average in the low 40s.
Saturday will mark as the best day for any outdoor plans or travel as a system is set to sweep into the area and bring rain or snow. Temperatures should range from the mid- to high 30s, which will set up the mix of precipitation, Samuhel said.
