As cold air shuffles into the West and Central states, warmth will build in the East, including the Washington, D.C., area this week.
Temperatures will surge into the 60s Thursday and briefly Friday.
Spotty showers are in the offing Thursday. It could get very wet at times late Friday into Friday night as a storm moves in from the South Central states. Fog could slow travel for a time Thursday, then rain may do the same Friday evening.

For folks heading to the National Christmas Tree Lighting festivities Friday afternoon and evening, be prepared for wet weather.
It will turn colder Friday evening into the weekend but odds are against any significant snow or ice at the tail end of the rain late Friday night into Saturday morning.
Another storm moving in from the South Central states could bring a wintry mix to part of the area later in the weekend.
