Weather Underground midday recap for Thursday,November 14, 2013
A ridge of high pressure brought sunny conditions to eastern third of
the country on Thursday, while a cold frontal boundary stretched from
the Intermountain West to the upper Midwest.
Light showers pushed across parts of the West Coast on Thursday, while
winter storm watches were issued across the Cascades and northern
Rockies. The coasts of northern California, Oregon and Washington
experienced light showers during Thursday morning, while showers began
to pick up in the early afternoon. Temperatures ranged between the 40s
and 50s in Washington and Oregon, while temperatures ranged between the
50s and 60s in northern California and Nevada. Southern California and
Arizona experienced much warmer temperatures as offshore winds allowed
temperatures to spike into the 80s and 90s. Camp Pendleton, Calif.,
recorded a midday high of 90 degrees, while Tucson, Ariz., recorded a
midday high of 87 degrees.
A cold front extended from Colorado to Minnesota on Thursday, which
provided a mixture of rain and snow to the upper Midwest. Northern Iowa
and southern Minnesota experienced light showers, while light snow
showers pushed across Wisconsin and northeastern Minnesota. Gusty winds
accompanied this frontal boundary, as Greeley, Colo., reported wind
speeds of 45 mph.
A ridge of high pressure kept the eastern third of the country sunny on
Thursday. Temperatures ranged between the 30s and 40s in the Northeast,
while temperatures ranged between the 60s and 70s in the Southeast.
