US National Weather Summary for October 7,2012

Here's the US National Weather Summary for Sunday,October 7,2012,as of 11PM,EDT/8PM, PDT,October 7,2012,from weatherunderground.com,enjoy:

Many areas from the parts of the Southern Plains through the Ohio Valley experienced significantly below normal temperatures on Sunday as a large ridge of high pressure reached from the Southern Plains into the East. After a chilly start this morning with temperatures near the freezing mark in most areas, daytime temperatures were slow to recover during the afternoon. Daytime highs have ranged from the mid-40s in the northernmost parts of the Upper Midwest to the 50s and 60s in the Southern Plains. Much of this region remained under various Freeze Watches and Frost Advisories in anticipation of tonight's near to below freezing temperatures. Colder conditions also began to spread into the Northeast and the Mid-Atlantic, causing afternoon temperatures to reach into the 40s and 50s. Meanwhile, cold flow associated with this system spread across the warmer waters of the Great Lakes and triggered lake-effect precipitation downwind of the lakes in Michigan, eastern Ohio, western New York, and western Pennsylvania.

Elsewhere in the East, showery weather in the Northeast tapered down through the afternoon, while a cold front stretched across the southeastern corner of the nation. Showers developed ahead of this front in the Florida Peninsula, while strong to severe thunderstorms with isolated hail and strong wind gusts remained possible in portions of the eastern Carolinas.
