US National Weather Summary for October 21,2012

Here's the US National Weather Summary for Sunday,October 21,2012,as of 11PM,EDT/8PM, PDT,October 21,2012,from weatherunderground.com,enjoy:

Cool and showery weather continued in the Pacific Northwest on Sunday as a large cold trough of low pressure in the jet stream centered over the central British Columbia coast moved slowly to the south. The system pushed ample moisture from the Pacific inland and maintained unsettled weather across the region with scattered showers, high elevation snow, and claps and rumbles of thunder through the afternoon. Rainfall totals in the Pacific Northwest have ranged up to an inch in some locations during the early afternoon and snow accumulations of about 1 to 2 inches have been reported mainly on grass surfaces at pass level. The highest snow accumulation was reported at Timberland Lodge on Montana Hood at 6,000 feet.

Meanwhile in the East, precipitation in much of the Northeast tapered down as a low pressure system pulled further northeastward into eastern Canada on Tuesday. A few areas of lake enhanced precipitation developed downwind of the Great Lakes as this departed. Calmer and dry conditions occurred across the rest of the East as high pressure began to build in from the South. This transition resulted in a modest warming trend in parts of the Southern Plains and Eastern Valleys.
