A historic flooding event unfolded across South Carolina in early
October of 2015. Hurricane Joaquin over the Bahamas contributed to
tropical moisture that fed into a stalled front over the Carolinas to
produce days of extremely heavy rainfall. Nineteen people lost their
lives in the floods and the event cost South Carolina $1.5 billion in
damage.
