Weather Underground Forecast for Saturday,October 8,2016

Hurricane Matthew will continue to impact the Eastern Seaboard on Saturday, while a Pacific system shifts across the Northwest.

Hurricane Matthew will trek north northeastward along the coasts of Georgia, South Carolina and southern North Carolina. During Saturday morning, Matthew is expected to be a category 2 hurricane. Wind speeds are forecast to range between 96 to 110 mph (83 to 95 kts). By Saturday evening, Matthew is expected to be downgraded to a category 1 hurricane, with wind speeds ranging between 74 to 95 mph (64 to 82 kts). Regardless of development, this system will bring catastrophic impacts to areas stretching from eastern Georgia to eastern North Carolina. Heavy rain, life-threatening storm surge and powerful winds will affect the region. Flash flooding is forecast for portions of eastern Georgia, eastern South Carolina, eastern North Carolina and southeast Virginia.

Meanwhile, a cold frontal boundary will extend south southwestward from the eastern Great Lakes to the western Gulf Coast. This frontal boundary will generate showers and isolated thunderstorms along the eastern edge of the Midwest, the northern Mid-Atlantic and New England. A mixture of rain and snow will trail this frontal boundary over parts of the upper Midwest.

Out west, monsoonal thunderstorms will pop up in portions of the Desert Southwest and the lower Intermountain West. Just to the north, a low pressure area will transition across the Northwest. Rain and high elevation snow will affect Washington, northern Oregon, northern Idaho and northern Montana.
