Sizzling heat to continue into Thursday before thundery showers spoil weekend plans

Following one of the warmest weekends of the year across all of the United Kingdom, warmth will prevail into Thursday.
Sunday was a beautiful day across most of the U.K. with sunshine and temperatures peaking at 24 C (75 F) or higher in parts of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
One of the warmest locations was Crosby which recorded a high temperature of 25.8 C (78.4 F).
While it will continue to feel more like mid-summer than early June, thundery showers could dampen any outdoor plans each of the next several days.

The greatest threat for these downpours will be from South West England through the western Midlands, Wales and into southwest Scotland.
These showers will be capable of producing flash flooding with more than 25 mm (1 inch) falling in a short period in the hardest hit areas.
The strongest storms will also be capable of producing strong winds, hail and frequent lightning.
Elsewhere there can be a brief thundery shower, though most areas will be dry on Wednesday and Thursday.
Sunshine will be replaced by thickening cloud from Friday into the weekend as a storm approaching from the Atlantic brings an increased threat for rainfall along with cooler air.

Two major music festivals could face delays from the late week storm as over 100,000 people flock to the Download Festival in Donington Park and the Isle of Wight Festival.
Brief showers and even a rumble of thunder are possible on Friday and Saturday and Saturday at both events.
The greatest threat will be on Sunday when a line of rain and thunderstorms is expected to move through Wales and England.
