The first tropical depression of the 2016 Eastern Pacific hurricane season has formed and is currently located southwest of the Mexican city of Salina Cruz.
Tropical Depression 1 is currently tracking northward toward the southern coast of Mexico, AccuWeather Meteorologist Brian Edwards said.
"It is tracking fairly quickly so I suspect that this system will make landfall sometime midday Tuesday," he said.

If the system develops into a tropical storm, it will be given the name Agatha.

The biggest threat across the southern coast of Mexico will be heavy rain into Tuesday, along with gusty winds. These rains could produce life-threatening flash floods and mudslides, especially in mountainous terrain.
Areas from Acapulco, and farther south into the Mexican state of Oaxaca, can expect 4-6 inches of rain, according to Edwards. Isolated amounts of around 8 inches are possible through Wednesday.
