Dangerous heat: Highs across Spain to surge up to 10 C above normal this week

The hottest air of the year so far will build across much of Spain this week.
Temperatures will soar well above normal on Wednesday and Thursday with temperatures near 35 C (95 F) in Madrid and 38 C (100 F) or higher from Seville to Cordoba.

The normal high temperature in Madrid is around 25 C (77 F) while the normal high for Cordoba and Seville is around 30 C (86 F).
The peak of the heat during the afternoon will result in dangerous conditions for anyone performing strenuous outdoor activities.
If you must be outdoors for any extended period of time, be sure to drink plenty of water.
If you want to escape the heat, coastal locations in eastern Spain will be much cooler.

High temperatures will peak around 29 C (84 F) in Valencia on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Farther north, Barcelona will escape the heat with daily high temperatures of 24-25 C (75-77 F).
A storm producing scattered showers and thunderstorms to northern Spain from Friday into Saturday will bring an end to the heat in these areas and briefly reducing the heat across central and southern Spain.
Dry weather and unseasonable warmth will continue across central and southern Spain from this weekend into early next week before more significant cooling occurs during the middle of next week.
