Stormy weather across Germany will resume this weekend with rain and thunderstorms returning to southern and western parts of the country.
More than 100 people across the country were injured by lightning strikes over the past two weekends, according to the BBC. That threat will be renewed this weekend, along with localized flash flooding.
Areas from Cologne and Saarbrucken to Stuttgart will be at risk for showers and thunderstorms both days. The unsettled weather will be confined to the morning in North Rhine-Westphalia but will occur anytime elsewhere.
On Sunday, the stormy weather will expand to include Frankfurt and Munich. Outdoor plans will be in jeopardy across southern and western Germany this day as the rain and thunderstorms will be possible during both the morning and afternoon.
Slow movement of the thunderstorms will result in the threat for localized flash flooding both days. The greatest threat will be in areas that have received heavy and flooding rainfall over the past two weeks.
One of the hardest-hit locations, Friedrichshafen, has reported more than 300 mm (12 inches) of rain since May 28.
Downpours this weekend can result in 25-50 mm (1-2 inches) of rain in a short time period, causing rivers and streams to rise quickly and lead to travel delays.
