A new cold plunge will be accompanied by accumulating snow across portions of the Midwestern and Northeastern states into this weekend.
In some cases, the cold air will rival that of nights early in the week, including parts of the interior South. The cold will threaten blossoming fruit and ornamental trees.
While snow showers accompanying the cold blast of air will persist across the interior Northeast and northern New England on Friday night, a storm system will spread steadier snow across parts of the Midwest and Northeast.
"The steadiest wave of snow will move into the Ohio Valley Friday evening then proceed to spread into Pennsylvania and western New York throughout the night," AccuWeather Meteorologist Courtney Spamer said.
Light snow will fall in a zone from northeastern Minnesota to northeastern Wisconsin, Michigan, northern and eastern Ohio, the mountains of West Virginia and Virginia, western and northern Pennsylvania and the southern tier of New York state.
This map shows projected snowfall on non-paved surfaces. Less snow will accumulate on roads.Through Saturday, cities that could receive small accumulations include Green Bay, Wisconsin; Detroit; Cleveland; and Pittsburgh and Scranton, Pennsylvania.
"With much of the snow in the Ohio Valley falling at night, a quick inch or two could accumulate in western Pennsylvania, making for some slick spots, especially on sidewalks, bridges and overpasses," Spamer added.

When will it warm up in the midwestern, northeastern US?
The mid-Atlantic will miss out on accumulating snow, but a period of mixed precipitation could extend across the region on Saturday. Cities that could receive some wet snowflakes on Saturday include Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia and New York City.
The highest snowfall amounts of up to 4 inches will fall in the higher elevations of Pennsylvania and West Virginia. A small area of 4-6 inches could fall across northern Ohio into western Pennsylvania, causing people to haul out their snow shovels once again.
"Even though it's April, some roads will get snow-covered and slippery overnight into Saturday," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist John Gresiak said.
Motorists traveling on the highway should be on the lookout for rapidly changing visibility and road surface conditions.
Spring is a time of the year when a wide variety of weather can occur within the span of a few hours.
It can even snow when temperatures are well above freezing during spring. Even though temperatures near the ground may be relatively high, the air aloft is often very cold in the spring. The cold air aloft increases the chance of snow or an icy mix surviving the trip thousands of feet to the ground.

even higher snow amounts..In fact these are actually on the low side

so applying your logic, after the brutal winter of 2013-2014 and the
brutal January-March 2015 we should have had the record warm spring and
summer in both 2014 and 2015...hmm, but we didn't..so if we have one or
few months above normal, are we supposed to pay for it with 2 years of
below normal temperatures?
