BREAKING: Dozens feared injured after 6.2-magnitude earthquake rocks Japan

A 6.2-magnitude earthquake struck about 12 km (7.5 miles) from Kumamoto-shi, Japan, on Thursday night, causing some structural damage, according to initial reports.
Japan's Meteorological Agency said no tsunami is expected due to the quake, which struck around 9:30 p.m. local time (8:30 a.m. EDT).
According to the Associated Press, local police said people may be trapped under their houses. Up to 45 people have been admitted or treated at the Japanese Red Cross Kumamoto Hospital, according to AP. Five of those injuries are reportedly serious.

Multiple aftershocks struck after the initial quake.
Initial photos and video footage show power loss at some buildings. The United States Geological Survey issued a red alert, putting the estimated financial damage between $1 and $10 billion.

Cleanup should not be hindered by weather, AccuWeather Meteorologist Jordan Root said.
"Conditions will be dry into the weekend, with some sunshine on Friday," he said. "Clouds will increase later on Saturday with the threat for rain and stronger winds arriving Saturday night through Sunday. Some of the rain could be heavy."
