April snow to resurge across the midwest, eastern US this weekend

Another shot of cold air lunging across the midwestern and eastern United States by this weekend will cause the chance for another round of spring snow to increase in both regions.
Rounds of snow have been frequent visitors to the Great Lakes and Northeast in recent days.
Additional snow will not only fall on parts of the Great Lakes and Northeast but also reach into the southern Appalachians around the second weekend of April.
"The wild, roller coaster ride with temperatures and weather will continue in the Midwest and Northeast but will expand to include parts of the South this week," according to AccuWeather Chief Meteorologist Elliot Abrams.
Though temperatures will rebound to springtime levels for some areas by midweek, a second blast will arrive in time for the weekend.

A new storm will carve out a deep pocket of cold air over the eastern half of the nation by the end of this week.
Abrams warned of the consequences of the dramatic temperature swings.
"As the cold air slices into the warm air, there will be the potential for locally severe thunderstorms and strong gusty winds, similar to what we have seen recently," Abrams said.

The pattern by the coming weekend will create favorable conditions for snow showers from the Great Lakes to the southern Appalachians and part of the coastal Northeast, including the Interstate-95 mid-Atlantic.
"A couple of pockets of steady snow will likely rotate around the cold plunge, but it is too early to say for sure where accumulating snow could fall outside of the higher elevations," Abrams said.
Working against slippery roads will be unfrozen ground and the warming rays of the April sun.
However, where snow manages to fall at a heavy rate, air temperatures will tumble and roads can become slushy and slippery for a time, even during the daylight hours.
Even as snow showers can dip as far south as the mountains of Tennessee and North Carolina during Friday into Saturday, temperatures can dip to near freezing in southern cities such as Nashville and Charlotte, North Carolina.
The waves of cold air and snow will retreat next week. However, there is still the potential for some chilly nights and spotty snow in the northern tier of the nation.
