Weather Underground Forecast for Wednesday,March 16,2016

An area of low pressure will move slowly across the upper Midwest on Wednesday, while a ridge of high pressure builds over the West Coast.

A robust area of low pressure will transition slowly east northeastward across the upper Mississippi Valley and the western Great Lakes. This system will usher heavy snow showers over northeast Minnesota, northern Wisconsin and northwest Michigan. Snow accumulations will range between 6 to 12 inches for the three states. Winter storm watches are in place across the region. A mixture of light rain and snow will develop west of this system across the northern Plains. In addition, a mixture of rain, freezing rain and snow will affect the Mid-Atlantic, the eastern Ohio Valley and New England. A cold frontal boundary will stretch south southwestward. The tail end of this frontal system will generate isolated showers and thunderstorms across parts of the southern Plains and the Deep South.

Meanwhile, light snow and low elevation showers will develop over the Pacific Northwest, the northern Rockies and the central Rockies. A ridge of high pressure over the eastern Pacific will bring dry conditions to California, the Great Basin and the Desert Southwest. High temperatures will range 5 to 15 degrees above normal across portions of southern California and the Desert Southwest.
