Colder air will plunge into the northeastern United States and set the stage for a snowstorm in part of the region from Sunday into Monday.
The exact track of the storm is dependent on a number of variables, which have yet to fall into place. However, the storm is likely to track close enough to the Atlantic coast to bring accumulating snow to the Interstate 95 corridor.
This map shows the anticipated accumulation on non-paved surfaces. The accumulation on roads may be significantly lower, especially in the mid-Atlantic.
"There has only been one storm that turned out to sea this winter, so we are fairly confident this one is coming up near the coast," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Bernie Rayno said.
"A true shot of arctic air, impressive for March, will push southward and set the stage this weekend," Rayno said. "For areas that get into the arctic air, this will be primarily a snow event."
The approximate southern edge of the arctic air will be between Richmond, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.
The storm will gradually strengthen while traveling northeastward near the coast during Sunday and Monday.
The amount of snow that falls will depend on the storm intensity as it passes by.
During the day Sunday, the storm will be relatively weak. Some of the snow that falls will melt on warm, paved surfaces in the mid-Atlantic. The storm can be mixed with rain for a time in the coastal mid-Atlantic.

As the storm begins to strengthen during Sunday night, the rate of snow may be heavy enough to make for slippery conditions in the mid-Atlantic, before dry air sweeps in.
"The best setup for a nor'easter with heavy snow will be farther to the northeast," Rayno said.
The rate of snow is likely to ramp up significantly near New York City during Sunday night.
"If the storm develops to its full potential, then a blizzard could evolve in part of New England," Rayno said.
Since the storm will be strengthening while impacting New England, it could bring heavy snow, increasing wind and building seas with worsening travel conditions.
The bulk of the storm will affect New England Sunday night into early Monday, when road surface temperatures will be at their lowest.
The amount of snow expected to fall near and west of the I-95 mid-Atlantic cities is not set in stone at this point as there are many factors that will come into play.
AccuWeather will continue to provide updates on the storm, including the extent and amount of snow and coastal problems as more information becomes available.
Rather than cold weather locking in for an extended stay, temperatures will rebound next week and will cause the snow that falls to rapidly melt.

For
an El Nino winter in the Northeast, this snowstorm 3-6" : that will
happen on the day of the Vernal Equinox could put NYC at 37 inches for

January happened during a cold outbreak in.

Allergy season is here. I hope we get snow from this storm to temporarily bring down the pollen and let me get SOME sleep.
I had a very rough morning with severe allergies, heavy congestion, and feeling miserable. I only had about 2 to 3 hours of sleep if that tells you anything. I took Mucinex DM, but the congestion is not stopping.
The only time I felt this miserable during the Winter was when I had a very bad cold. Other than that, my congestion was relatively mild. But, ever since the tree pollen got started, my congestion has been progressively worse than it was during the Winter....See More

am just curious if there is anywhere you can live that will not cause

Marty Bell Let me explain something to you that I hope will not offend you. I don't want to start a war here.
Ever since I came down with a mysterious illness in late 2007...which no doctor ever identified, mind you...my health has steadily gone downhill from there. Each year is always worse than the previous year and, at this point, I question whether I'll live to see next Winter or even this coming Autumn. I can't even take a shower or bathe because the last time I tried to, I had either an asthma or anxiety attack (not sure which). This was back in March of 2015, I think. In addition ...See More

The
very thought of there being snow around for Palm Sunday, into Holy
Week, and Easter is depressing...considering it was over 70 degrees on
Christmas Eve 2015 and we were preparing our seafood and meatless
Christmas Eve meal on the grill outside. I am tired of my Christmas
cactus blooming at Easter and not at Christmas, too. Maybe if EASTER
would fall at a more desireable time, like the Orthodox Easter for May
1st this year, we would not have to worry about Easter egg hunts that
require kids wearing winter coats and their parents bringing shovels
along to dig through snow. I need to move!

Forecast
a few days ago was for a little rain Sunday night and then a nice day
Monday. It seems the track has gone west and I'm seeing reports from
anywhere to an inch to 8"! There's still time for it to change back to
rain or dry. Hopefully.

Predicting
a snowstorm 5-7 days out is challenging, and subject to change as time
draws closer to the event. That far out there will be a wider range of
possibilities, when compared to a day or two away from the event.
Consider it advanced notice.
Mark P Murtha
Alex
Sosnowski that sounds good for you...but in the real world people have
to make projections all the time..and much further out than 5-7
days...they are held accountable for these projections, and telling
their bosses that something has changed just doesn't cut it...after this
happens over and over ( like the weather forecasts) the boss tells them
goodbye

I'm on your side, Alex. People can't seem to understand that weather
doesn't always follow through with forecasts. Any last minute changes
can "bust up" forecasts. Storms can slow down, speed up, change
direction, intensify, weaken, fizzle out, etc.
Unlike most people, I appreciate what you and other meteorologists do and I understand how incredibly complicated it is to forecast weather events, especially snowstorms and Nor'Easters. I suggest that you don't listen to negative comments regarding your forecasts because they're not worth it. People just refuse to understand or get it. Meteorologists try their best to forecast the weather, but in the end, it's all up to Mother Nature (or God, depending on what you believe in) to decide what the weather actually does.

Climate
change. Ok. How exactly did humans cause the last ice age to end 10,000
years ago? Talk amongst yourselves while no one figures this out.
Sorry, there's nothing to figure out. Humans didn't cause climate change
then and humans didn't cause climate change now.
Isaac Vagelatos ·
Well
we weren't emitting massive amounts of Co2 into the atmosphere 10,000
year ago either. That's kind of the main premise for the whole climate
change and global warming concept.
James Anthony Hines ·
We
had too many crystals collecting power from the sun which led to the
Terminator scenerio of the Atlanteans. So yes there is a way to blame
humans for the warming ten thousand years ago. We might as well start
blaming ancient humans for those disapperences of modern man in the
Bermuda Triangle to boot. :lol
Jodi Carr Davis ·
Tell
that to the polar bears, Milton, and the Dodos, and the Ivory Billed

environment, it has been changing due to Co2, nobody creates that but
man. https://m.facebook.com/kerstin.langenberger.photography/photos/a.463697036975575.115901.429056113773001/1045109095501030/?type=3&source=48&__tn__=E

Climate
change in the past has happened over very long periods, usually do to
external factors such as volcanic eruptions or meteors hitting the
planet. The current climage change is happening in a VERY short period,
and none of those external factors are contributing to it. Just us and
our industries.
William Smith ·
Damon
Young , until all of you who blame man and capitalism for climate
change are willing to drive electric cars and put solar panels on your
roofs, then stop complaining. At least some people have done so,but many
of those in the man-made cimate change camp still drive around in
gas-guzzling SUV's and use fossil fuels still to heat their homes. Those
types are such hypocrites.

ON SNOW! Shut down Washington DC for days! The citizens of the USA need
a respite from the buffoonery of the federal government.
Marty Bell ·
I
do believe that what I've heard Henry saying over the years is really
true about this past winter: It's gonna snow where there's been
snow..." Pretty much no snow in NE PA this season...this "storm" will
be no different. I just get annoyed by the "gloom and doom" story
headlines...especially when most weather sources are in consensus that
this storm is going out to sea and not bringing any big snows. Not sure
if it's Winter trying to hold on...or AccuWeather trying to hold on to
Winter.
Mike Duncker ·
What's so "gloom and doom" about a snowstorm?? bring it i say!!
Lawrence P. Bansbach
Well,
it's "snow breeds snow," and that's not really true. If there's snow
cover, that tends to drop surface temperatures, but there isn't any. But
the models appear to be trending more west than yesterday. That, of
course, could change again.
Charles Letizia ·
No snow? I seem to remember 25 inches over 36 hours time not to long ago. I went thru 2 auger belts during that storm.
Gustave Eugene
Only
liberals cause climate change. So, they should pay. And why wouldn't
they. Fixing half the problem is better than none. And by chance they
are wrong, then at least the rest of us can go about our lives as
nothing has happened.
Damon Young ·
Can you explain how only liberals contribute to climate change?
Anthony Artesto ·
Climate
change is real but unaffected by humans or animals and used as a levy
for government and corporations to grow using scare tactics. The truth
is poor leadership accompanied with government corruption will injure
America far more before climate change would ever have a chance!
William Smith ·
My
sentiments exactly. The solar-panel companies and green energy
companies like Solyndra profit quite enormously from the climate change
scare tactics of the alarmist environmentalists. These companies are
behind all of those groups, they profit just as much as the federal
government from their alarmism. The more people that buy into the
man-made climate change hysteria, the more these type of businesses
profit off of it.
Joel Croy ·
Climates
have changed for thousands of years. The Sahara was once fertile.
Before 1000 AD, Europe was warmer, Greenland was green, and there could
have been a summer passage to the Pacific over Canada (the legendary
Northwest Passage). It got a lot colder 1300 and is just beginning to
warm again. How much has man affected it - oh I would say 0%. But it
makes a nice scam to "sell cleanup of your carbon footprint.".
Shalom Septimus
Agreed,
except for one point: Greenland wasn't ever green. The name of that
island remains the greatest false advertisement in the history of the
human species. It had been settled by people from Iceland, who were
tired of other people thinking that the name of their country means
" land of ice" (it just means "island"), and decided to
give a better name to their colony in an attempt to attract
other settlers.
Lawrence P. Bansbach
According
to the article, the "potential wet snow area will graze the swath from
Washington, D.C., to Baltimore, Philadelphia and New York City." Yet
your graphic "Winter Storm Sunday Night-Monday" shows the snow missing
Philly by what looks like a significant margin.
