A strong low pressure system will bring impacts to the eastern third of the country on Wednesday, while a Pacific system moves onshore over the West Coast.
A robust area of low pressure will shift northeastward across the upper Mississippi Valley and the Great Lakes. This system will produce strong winds and moderate to heavy precipitation over the upper Great Lakes and the Northeast. A mixture of heavy rain, freezing rain and snow will develop over Upstate New York and northwest New England. Light to moderate snow will trail this system over the northern Plains and the upper Midwest. A cold frontal boundary will extend southwestward across the Ohio Valley, the eastern Tennessee Valley and the central Gulf Coast. Heavy rain and thunderstorms will develop along and ahead of this frontal boundary across the Southeast and the Mid-Atlantic. Prolonged heavy rain could lead to flash flooding in northern Florida, southeast Alabama, southern Georgia, eastern Maryland, Delaware, eastern Pennsylvania, southeast New York and New Jersey. A frigid air mass will trail this frontal system, digging south southeastward over the northern Plains, the central Plains and the Midwest.
Out west, a Pacific cold front will swing across the northwestern quadrant of the country. Moderate to heavy rain and mountain snow will affect the Pacific Northwest and the upper Intermountain West. Light to moderate rain and high elevation snow can also be expected across northern California and northern Nevada.
