Weather Underground Forecast for Saturday,February 13,2016
Cold air will continue pouring across the Eastern US on Saturday as a low pressure system advances eastward into the Atlantic Ocean and pulls cold air in behind it. This system will allow for lake effect snow showers to persist for the downwind shores of the Great Lakes, while also allowing for snow showers to persist for the Ohio Valley and the southern Appalachians. Snowfall totals will range from 3 to 5 inches, up to 6 inches possible at highest passes and peaks. Expect strong winds to diminish for the Great Lakes, but increase for the Eastern states from the Ohio Valley through the Eastern Seaboard. Wind gusts will range from 10 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph. Also expect stronger winds at higher elevations. Cold air associated with this system will allow for below normal temperatures to persist for the Eastern states. Expect highs to remain 20 to 30 degrees below normal for this time of year for the Ohio Valley, Mid-Atlantic, and Northeast on Saturday.
Out West, a series of low pressure systems continue moving through the Pacific Northwest and northern Rockies. Temperatures will continue to drop with these systems, allowing for rain showers to turn to snow showers at high elevations of Washington and Oregon. Snowfall totals for the Cascades through northern Rockies are expected to reach over 6 inches over the weekend, with some highest mountain passes seeing up to two feet.
