Stormy weather to bring travel delays from Italy to Ukraine

Stormy weather will continue across southeastern Europe through the end of the week, with rain, ice and snow causing travel delays across the region.
Another storm developing in the Adriatic Sea on Wednesday will spread rain from Italy and Croatia to Albania, Greece and Bulgaria.
Generally, this rain will be on and off throughout the day. However, there could be some heavier rain in the higher elevations and along the coasts of the region.

"Rainfall amounts of 25-75 mm (1-3 inches) are expected across Montenegro, southern Serbia, Albania, Macedonia and western Greece," AccuWeather Meteorologist Tyler Roys said. "However, locally higher amounts up to 127 mm (5 inches) are possible, especially in the higher terrain."
There will be enough rain to cause flash flooding and mudslides.
These areas will not be the only places experiencing tricky travel on Wednesday. Icy conditions will unfold across Hungary, northern Serbia and Romania during the afternoon.
Into Wednesday night, the mix of snow and ice across southern Romania will slowly change to rain.
Rain will also spread eastward through Bulgaria and Greece during Wednesday night.

The wintry mix across Hungary will persist into early Thursday.
On Thursday, the storm center will reach the western coast of the Black Sea, spreading the storm's effects farther east.
On the back side of the storm, cold air filtering in from the north will allow a brief period of snow showers to occur across western Romania and Serbia. Snow will be steadiest in the morning, with only flurries anticipated into the afternoon.

Steady snow will commence across Moldova and into central and eastern Ukraine on Thursday, creating a snowstorm likely to slow travel for cities like Odessa and Kharkiv.
"Snowfall could top out at 75-150 mm (3-6 inches) of snow in eastern Ukraine," Roys said. "Central Ukraine will likely get a shorter period heavy snow, resulting in 25-75 mm (1-3 inches) of snow."
Rain will mix with snow near the Black Sea coast in southern Ukraine, keeping snow totals even lower.
Farther north, there will be some snow showers that reach Kiev, but only a coating is expected.
The storm will continue to track northeastward across Ukraine and western Russia into Friday morning before departing. Much of the region will get a break from the rain and snow Friday before another dose of wet weather could reach northern parts of the Balkans on Saturday.
