Is Tropical Depression Twelve-E a Threat to Hawaii?

August 25,2015

Highlights:

  • Tropical Depression Twelve-E formed in the Eastern Pacific Monday night and is about 1,610 miles east-southeast of Hilo, Hawaii
  • The depression is forecast to strengthen into Tropical Storm Ignacio soon, and eventually a hurricane later this week as it moves west, then west-northwest over the open ocean.
  • This new system is not a threat to land over the next few days but some computer forecast models indicate that it could come close to Hawaii early next week.
  • Interests in the Hawaiian Islands should monitor the progress of this latest named storm.
