While the Philippines will escape Tropical Storm Chan-hom, which will eventually make a run at super typhoon status, the same cannot be said for Tropical Storm Linfa.
Tropical Storm Linfa formed early Friday morning local time in the southern Philippine Sea and remains on track to target much of Luzon Island of the Philippines with heavy rain this weekend.
Linfa will move into northern Luzon later this weekend as a strong tropical storm, but impacts to the inland have already begun. Outer bands of heavy rain reached Luzon's northeastern coast on Saturday, with widespread amounts of 25-50 mm (1-2 inches) of rain being reported.
Rain will spread westward through Sunday, with drenching rain persisting in northwestern Luzon on Monday.
"The biggest threat is flooding," AccuWeather Meteorologist Rob Richards said. "Rainfall amounts will generally be on the order of 75 to 150 mm (3 to 6 inches)."
There will be locally higher amounts with some communities being inundated with 300 mm (12 inches).

Northern Luzon Island will also face tropical storm-force winds of 65 to 115 kph (40 to 70 mph) that could lead to tree damage, power outages and some property damage during the second half of the weekend.
Surf will become increasingly rough through the weekend in the Philippine Sea, posing hazards for boaters and swimmers all along the eastern coast of the Philippines.
As Linfa tracks north, the storm looks to impact southern Taiwan and produce heavy rain across the island. Rain will be heaviest on Tuesday and gradually diminishing throughout the day on Wednesday.
After soaking northwestern Luzon on Monday and Taiwan on Tuesday, Linfa will curve back to the northeast and meet its demise next week as stronger winds associated with Chan-hom arrive.
