Most of the Northeast will welcome a weekend free of showers and thunderstorms, but the dry weather will not hold into next week.
Showers and thunderstorms will be detoured away from the majority of the Northeast this weekend with an area of high pressure in control.
"It will be a squeeze play with the disturbance brushing Washington, D.C., Saturday and another feature in far northern New England with the middle part of the sandwich being dry," AccuWeather Northeast Weather Expert Dave Dombek said.
The disturbance brushing Washington, D.C., will make for a wet start to the weekend across Virginia after heightening concerns for flash flooding in West Virginia Friday night.
Umbrellas and rain gear can be put away this weekend along the I-95 corridor from Portland, Maine, to Boston to New York City to Philadelphia. The same can be said for many other communities, such as Albany and Binghamton, New York; Concord, New Hampshire; Hartford, Connecticut; and Scranton and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
"Given the pattern that the Northeast has been in, the dry weather this weekend is unusual," Dombek continued. "This is a bonus for the Northeast to get two, maybe three, days for some places, of rain-free weather in a pattern where there might be a day or day and a half of dry weather."
Homeowners will finally have an opportunity to mow the lawn, players and fans of sporting events will not have to worry about delays and farmers will enjoy seeing soggy fields dry out.
A partly to mostly sunny sky will complement the dry weather. Near- to slightly above-normal temperatures will provide perfect weather for those planning to head to the local swimming pool or lake.
"Humidity levels will be relatively comfortable for mid-July on Saturday," Dombek added. "While there will be an uptick in humidity on Sunday, it will be far from oppressive."

"The party [in terms of rain-free conditions] will be over by the end of the weekend for the central Appalachians, and then more of the Northeast by Monday," continued Dombek.
A storm system from the Midwest is expected to bring the next round of showers and thunderstorms, which will reach Pittsburgh and Erie, Pennsylvania, and Charleston, West Virginia, Sunday afternoon.
The unsettled weather will return to New York City and Philadelphia on Monday, while Boston may sneak out one more dry day before turning stormy on Tuesday.
"Early next week will likely be the total opposite from this weekend across the Northeast, with no forecastable break in the showers and thunderstorms," Dombek added.
Widespread severe weather is currently not anticipated early next week, but any thunderstorm will produce lightning and bring disruptions to outdoor plans.
Another prolonged break will not follow the round of showers and thunderstorms to start next week.
"I have a hard time seeing more than a day here or there that is dry across the Northeast next week," stated AccuWeather Long Range Meteorologist Joe Lundberg.

"After a cooler-than-normal summer of 2014, the East overall is forecast to be hit by more 90-plus degree days this summer."
Instead, NYC on track for the lowest tally of 90s in history. Why isn't Accuweather even mentioning this?

David Gilkin · Top Commenter · Temple Universityreally depends on location. They never said a hot summer, just warmer than last year. So far that's been true overall. Since June 1st the Northeast as a whole has been average so far. Yes afternoon highs have been slightly below average but the lows have been slightly above average so they cancel out. As for 90° days it depends on where you live. Philadelphia is right on average with nine days this year, NYC has had 1 but NYC has had 7 days that hit 89°.
Now farther north in New England and upstate NY yes it's probably been just as cool.
