WeatherWhys for June 15,2015 from accuweather.com

Hurricanes seldom strike the West Coast of the United States for a variety of the reason. First, the primary track for tropical systems in the Eastern Pacific will take the storms west, away from the United States. The storms that do turn northward encounter much cooler ocean waters as they approach the United States, which weakens the storms and prevents them from reaching the West Coast.
