The system responsible for severe weather across the Midwest this past weekend will shift eastward and aim from the Tennessee Valley to part of the Northeast Monday night.
Cities such as Nashville; Charleston, West Virginia; Binghamton, New York; Scranton, Pennsylvania; and Washington, D.C., will be under the threat for heavy and strong thunderstorms.

"With plenty of moisture being pulled into the northeastern United States, a strong but slow-moving front will force strong thunderstorms to fire into Monday night," AccuWeather Meteorologist Evan Duffey said.
These thunderstorms will have the potential to bring heavy downpours, hail and damaging wind gusts as these storm cells travel southwest to northeast.

"Sudden downpours will be the most widespread impact. The instability in the area could also allow storms to bring borderline severe weather impacts, like damaging winds and hail as well," said Duffey.
Showers with embedded thunderstorms will be widespread to start the day; however, the main threat of severe weather will come during the early evening.

The movement of these storms will prevent severe weather from reaching the Atlantic coast. However, the storms are expected to reach part of the I-95 corridor during the evening as they begin to diminish.
"During Monday evening, thunderstorms with downpours and perhaps gusty winds will reach the I-95 corridor from New York City to Washington, D.C.," said AccuWeather Meteorologist Mike Doll.
Storms are expected to rapidly decline in strength once the sun sets this evening, with showers and a few rumbles of thunder reaching eastern New England by daybreak on Tuesday.
Another round of storms will fire up on Tuesday along the Atlantic Seaboard.

Some of the storms on Tuesday could become heavy and gusty.
