Severe Storms to Shift East Toward Chicago Saturday

The threat of severe weather will shift eastward during the first half of the weekend, advancing from the northern Plains into the Midwest.
People from Des Moines, Iowa, to Green Bay, Wisconsin, and into Chicago should all be on alert for severe thunderstorms into Saturday evening.
Those with outdoor plans across the region during the first half of the Father's Day weekend may want to consider moving them to Sunday after the storms depart the region.

Saturday's storms will be a continuation of those that erupted over the northern Plains on Friday and Friday night, producing wind gusts nearing 90 mph.
While Saturday's storms are not expected to be quite as strong as those on Friday, they can still bring damaging wind gusts strong enough to bring down trees and power lines.
Localized flooding is also possible with over an inch of rain falling in under an hour with the heaviest storms.

Calmer weather is forecast to return to this part of the country for Sunday, just in time for Father's Day.
This will bode well for those planning to go golfing, fishing, hiking, or grilling on Sunday in the same area that will be hit with heavy storms on Saturday.
