Rain to Bypass Much of Northeast This Weekend

Rain will bypass a large part of the Northeast this weekend as one storm with chilly air lingers across the north and another storm with rain slices by to the south.
According to AccuWeather Meteorologist Dave Samuhel, "The cold will ease somewhat this weekend across most of the Northeast. However, it will still be a few degrees cooler than average from Washington, D.C., to New York City."
Rain to Reach Part of Mid-Atlantic
A storm with drenching rain will cruise across the Southern states Saturday into Sunday. The exact track of the storm will determine how far north the rain will extend into the mid-Atlantic states.
As the storm moves along, rain is forecast to spread eastward across southern Pennsylvania, Virginia and Maryland during the day Saturday into Saturday evening.

The current track of the storm will bring rain as far north as Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Atlantic City, New Jersey.
"The good news is that most of the rain will occur Saturday night, leaving much of the daytime hours this weekend dry," Samuhel said.

The NASCAR race at Richmond Motor Speedway on Saturday evening could experience delays or perhaps a postponement due to the rain.

Drying and sunshine will progress southward on Sunday, reaching the swath from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia. Enough dry air will move in to turn off the rain in Washington, D.C., and Baltimore.
Clouds and showers are likely to linger into Sunday in southern Virginia and the lower part of the Delmarva Peninsula.
Clouds, Chilly Showers to Retreat to Northern New England
Across northern New England and northern upstate New York, a storm in the upper atmosphere will keep a puddle of chilly air in place with spotty showers this weekend.
The bulk of the shower activity is likely to occur during the afternoon and evening hours.
Over the higher terrain from the Adirondacks to the Green, White and Longfellow mountains, wet snowflakes will fall at times.
Blustery conditions, chilly air and showers will keep AccuWeather RealFeel® Temperatures in the 30s and lower 40s in the lower elevations during the afternoon hours both days from northern New York to Maine.
Best Bet for Weekend Sunshine: Lower Great Lakes to Long Island Sound
Folks from Buffalo, New York, to Scranton, Pennsylvania, New York City and Boston may want to stay put this weekend, rather than venture too far to the north or south.
The sunniest and correspondingly the warmest weather both days of the weekend will extend from the southern tier of New York and the northern tier of Pennsylvania to southern New England and northern New Jersey.
"If rain does reach as far north as New York City, it is likely to be limited to a few hours Saturday night," Samuhel said.
While both mornings will start chilly with freezing temperatures in many areas, midday and afternoon temperatures are forecast to climb 20-30 degrees both days. The squeeze play between the two storms will allow highs ranging from the upper 50s to the lower 60s.
With clearing, Sunday will be the warmer of the two days from southern Pennsylvania to southern New Jersey.
During the first part of next week, the zone of clouds, showers and chilly air is likely to rotate southward across the region.
