The eastern-third of the United States was dealing with a potent winter
storm on this date in 2008. The heaviest snow targeted the Ohio and St.
Lawrence valleys. Columbus, Ohio, shattered its single snowstorm record
when 20.4 inches accumulated. The previous record was 15 inches from a
snowstorm in 1910. While escaping snow, the East Coast was hit with
damaging winds and soaking rain. Severe weather rattled the South.
