Weather Underground Forecast for Sunday,February 8,2015

Unsettled weather will persist across the Northwest on Sunday, while an area of low pressure will slide over the Great Lakes.

Another round of heavy precipitation is expected across the Northwest. A plume of moisture over the eastern Pacific will interact with a low pressure system. This interaction will generate moderate to heavy rain over the northern half of California and the Pacific Northwest. Prolonged heavy rain will bring chances of flash flooding to the region. The most vulnerable areas will be along western facing mountain slopes, especially along the coastal range of northern California and the northern Sierra Nevada. There will be a slight chance of thunderstorms during the afternoon from central California to southwest Washington. Due to the warm nature of this system, snow showers will be confined to the highest peaks of the Sierra Nevada, the Cascades, the northern Wasatch and the northern Rockies. Precipitation will be much lighter in nature across the upper Intermountain West. High pressure will keep weather conditions calm across the Desert Southwest and the Four Corners.

Meanwhile, an area of low pressure will slide east southeastward over the lower Great Lakes on Sunday. A mixture of light rain and snow will develop over the upper Midwest, while heavy snow showers are expected across New England. In addition, warm air is expected to overrun an arctic air mass. Freezing rain will be possible from the Ohio Valley to the northern Mid-Atlantic. Just to the south, light, scattered showers will develop across the Tennessee Valley, the Deep South and the eastern Gulf Coast.
