Weather Underground Forecast for Thursday,February 5,2015

A Pacific system will bring unsettled weather to the Northwest on Thursday, while a cold front will shift across the eastern third of the country.

A strong low pressure system over the eastern Pacific will usher light to moderate rain over northern California and the Pacific Northwest. Locally heavy rain will bring impacts to northwest California and southwest Oregon, as flash flood watches are in place across the region. Due to the warm nature of this system, snow levels will rise above 7,000 feet across the Cascades. By the afternoon and evening, precipitation will spread eastward over the northern Wasatch and the northern Rockies. High pressure will persist over the Southwest, keeping conditions warm and dry across southern California, Nevada and the Four Corners. Temperatures are forecast to range between the 70s and 80s across the Desert Southwest.

Just to the east, a ridge of high pressure will sink south southeastward over the Plains and the Midwest. This system will bring temperatures 10 to 20 degrees below normal from the northern Plains to the Northeast.

Meanwhile, a cold front will extend from New England to the middle Mississippi Valley. This frontal boundary will swing eastward, generating light snow showers over the Tennessee Valley, the northern Mid-Atlantic and New England. Moderate to heavy snow will be possible over eastern New England during Thursday morning. In addition, an area of low pressure will move east northeastward over the southeastern corner of the country. Rain and thunderstorms will be possible across the southern Mid-Atlantic, the Southeast and the eastern Gulf Coast.
