Weather Underground Forecast for Wednesday,February 18,2015

An area of low pressure will slide across the Great Lakes on Wednesday, while a ridge of high pressure will build over the Southwest.

A low pressure system will shift slowly eastward over the Great Lakes. This system will usher light snow showers over parts of the upper Midwest and the Northeast. Cold air trailing this system will initiate lake effect snow over western Michigan and northern Indiana. A cold frontal boundary associated with this system will extend south southwestward. This frontal boundary will generate light snow showers over the middle Mississippi Valley, the Tennessee Valley, the Ohio Valley and the Mid-Atlantic. A separate cold front will linger over the Southeast. Rain and isolated thunderstorms will continue to be possible over southern Florida.

Meanwhile, an arctic high pressure system will sink southward over the northern Plains and the upper Midwest. Temperatures are forecast to drop 20 to 30 degrees below February standards across the northern Plains, the Midwest and the Ohio Valley on Wednesday. In addition, upslope flow will bring chances of light snow showers to the northern high Plains.

Out west, an onshore flow from the Pacific will initiate light rain over parts of Washington and northwest Oregon. A ridge of high pressure will keep conditions dry across the Great Basin, the Southwest and the majority of the Intermountain West. Temperatures are forecast to range between the 70s and 80s across the Desert Southwest.
