A strong low pressure system will impact the Midwest and Northeast on Saturday, while a ridge of high pressure will park itself over the Southwest.
A vigorous area of low pressure will move east southeastward over the Great Lakes and the Northeast. Moderate to heavy snow showers are expected across New England and the northern Mid-Atlantic on Saturday. The heaviest snow showers will likely affect eastern New England during the late afternoon and evening. Blizzard watches are in place across eastern Maine, southeast New Hampshire and eastern Massachusetts. A mixture of rain and snow will develop across the Tennessee Valley and the southern Mid-Atlantic. High pressure will settle in behind this system, bringing a blast of cold air to the upper Midwest and the Great Lakes. Temperatures are expected to drop 20 to 30 degrees below normal for February standards.
Meanwhile, a separate system will drop southward over the upper Intermountain West and the northern Plains. This system is expected to bring morning rain to the northern half of the Pacific Northwest, as well as moderate to heavy snow showers to the northern Rockies and the northern Plains.
