Following snow squalls and arctic air that will rival the coldest of the season, a storm will spread wintry precipitation across the New York City area this weekend.
Dangerously low AccuWeather RealFeel® Temperatures are forecast with readings dipping below zero.
Temperatures dipped to 3 F in New York City Central Park on Feb. 16, 2015, which was the coldest since Jan. 16, 2004.
Daily record lows will be challenged as temperatures dip into the low single digits F once again into Saturday. The record low Saturday morning of 4 F was set in 1896.

As cold as it will get around the region by the end of the school week, the next storm due in this weekend will bring a quick temperature turnaround and liquid precipitation along with some snow.

Motorists and airline passengers should expect delays this weekend, despite the temperature rise with a significant amount of snow, ice and rain. Where cold air lingers north and west of the city, a buildup of ice can occur, perhaps to the point of causing sporadic power outages. Rising temperatures from the city on south and east, combined with rain and melting snow could lead to urban flooding problems.
Another blast of arctic air will follow the weekend storm.
While temperatures are not likely to get as low as the most recent frigid blasts, it will get cold enough for discomfort when spending time outdoors during early next week. Areas of slush and standing water will freeze.
