Winter Storm Marcus continues to dump snow on the Northeast. Added to the massive snowfall from other recent storms, Marcus has helped to tie or break some all-time snow records in parts of New England.
Before we get to the latest snowfall reports from Winter Storm Marcus itself, let's take a look at the records it has helped to set:
Historic Snowfall and Snow Depth Records Set
Boston: Logan International Airport had already tallied a three-day storm total of 22.3 inches as of 7 p.m. EST Monday morning. This is now the record snowiest 30-day period on record in Beantown, with 71.8 inches between Jan. 11 and 1 p.m. EST Monday, topping the previous record 30-day snowfall of 58.8 inches from Jan. 9 through Feb. 7, 1978 – a stretch that included the infamous Blizzard of '78.
A record for snow depth was also set on Monday afternoon with a snow depth of 37 inches. The previous record was 31 inches which was measured on January 11, 1996.

Bangor, Maine: Snow from Winter Storm Marcus has helped Bangor tie its all-time record snow depth. The official snow depth Monday morning was 53 inches, tying the record first set on three consecutive days from Feb. 27 to March 1, 1969.
Snow depth is the amount of snow sitting on the ground at a given time. It's different from snowfall, which is officially measured using a flat device called a snowboard. The snowboard is cleared after each snowfall measurement, up to four times a day. Because of setting, compaction, and (if it's warm enough) melting, snow depth is almost always less than the amount of snowfall measured since the last time the ground was bare.

Worcester, Massachusetts: Record heaviest seasonal snowfall to date through Feb. 8: 90.1 inches, topping the previous record of 77.8 inches through Feb. 8, 2011, during the 2010-2011 snow season.

Winter Storm Marcus will continue to impact the Northeast through Monday night.
