Blinding snow squalls are bringing whiteout conditions and causing treacherous travel across portions of the Northeast.
Numerous accidents on major thoroughfares occurred throughout Saturday afternoon and evening across parts of Indiana, Ohio, western New York and Southern Ontario. Speed limit reductions have also been put in effect.
"Motorists should be alert for rapidly changing weather conditions that include a sudden drop in visibility, strong winds and a rapid freeze-up," AccuWeather.com Senior Meteorologist Alex Sosnowski said.
Thousands of electric customers from the Carolinas to the Northeast were without power late Saturday as a result of the high winds.
