After being blasted by harsh winds to end the weekend, attention in Washington, D.C., is turning toward the impending snowstorm that will be the biggest so far this winter.
Monday will prove to be not as harsh as Sunday as strong and blustery winds ease. The cold, however, will remain and set the stage for a snowstorm to unfold Monday night through Tuesday morning.
Substantial accumulations will unfold with this storm expected to become the city's biggest so far this winter. The snow event from Jan. 6 and its 2.4 inches currently holds that distinction.
The majority of the impending snow will fall Monday night, causing roads to quickly become snow-covered and treacherous. While the snow will be winding down, lingering effects threatens to cause a nightmare for commuters Tuesday morning.
Travel will remain slow into Tuesday until road crews can complete their work. Residents are urged to review these tip to clear snow safely.
Airline passengers should prepare for flight delays and cancellations. That is the case even in the afternoon after the snow has departed due to the resultant ripple effect.

Residents may also be faced with disruptions to daily routines, including school delays or cancellations.
The snowstorm will be followed by a couple of snow showers on Wednesday before yet another bitter blast of arctic air arrives for the second half of the week.
Amid that cold blast, record lows will be challenged more than once.
