Following a brief period of snow showers throughout the weekend, drier weather can be expected across Chicago early in the new week, but the bitter cold will continue to hold.
Lake-effect snow will bring a few snow showers to start the week late Sunday into Monday, AccuWeather.com Meteorologist Danielle Knittle said.
While less snow can be expected early in the week, Knittle said a few flurries can't be ruled out for Monday and Tuesday.

"It will be bitter cold and we're going to be nowhere near the average [temperatures]," she said.
Average highs for the area range around 35 F.
For the start of the week, temperatures will hover in the middle teens before sinking to subzero lows overnight.
"High pressure over the northern Plains will keep the cold air continuing to pour into the area," Knittle said.

Sunshine will make a return Wednesday, but highs will linger in the single digits.
Toward the end of the week, temperatures will climb back into the 20s.
