WeatherFanatics: Waves of Heat to Bake Perth Through Christmas

Friday is shaping up to be the hottest day since last summer in Perth, Australia, with another surge of heat in store for Christmas.
A dome of high pressure will be responsible for baking much of Western Australia on Friday, including Perth.
Temperatures will soar into the lower 40s C (106-112 F) across the interior of northern Western Australia, while highs in the mid-30s C (mid-90s F) bake the coast.
Temperatures will top out in the upper 30s C (lower 100s F) in Perth, the capital city that typically records a high around 29 C (85 F) this time of year.

That would make Friday the city's hottest day since last summer. Not since the first two days of March have temperatures risen to 37.8 C (100 F).
Residents are urged to drink plenty of water, wear light clothing and avoid strenuous activity during the hottest part of Friday (the midday and afternoon hours) to protect themselves against a heat-related illness.

The good news is that the heat will be short-lived and not last into Saturday thanks to the passage of a cold front, which will struggle to produce any rain when it crosses Perth.
The cooler and more seasonable air will continue to grace Perth into Monday, but not through the rest of the Christmas week, according to AccuWeather.com Senior Meteorologist Jason Nicholls.
"A mini-heat wave is shaping up for Perth later next week. While falling short of repeating this Friday's high, temperatures will still rise close to 32 C (90 F) on Christmas and could top out in the mid-30s C (mid-90s F) to end the week," stated Nicholls.
Residents will once again be turning up fans and air conditioners to battle the heat, increasing electric bills that may be already running high this month due to Christmas light displays.
Another option to beat the heat is to spend a part of the holiday at the area beaches.
