A powerful cold front producing towering clouds, severe thunderstorms and torrential rain will put millions of people in harm's way into Thursday night.
"The main zone for severe weather Thursday evening will stretch from northeastern Texas and northern Louisiana northward through Arkansas and southern portions of Missouri and Illinois as a squall line races across these areas," AccuWeather.com Meteorologist Carl Erickson said.
Portions of Mississippi and western Tennessee will also experience some severe weather.
"Torrential, flooding downpours, large hail and damaging wind gusts up to 65 mph will be the primary threat from these storms although a stronger storm may even spawn a tornado," he added.
