Hurricane Alicia was the only major hurricane of the 1983 Atlantic
hurricane season. Alicia made landfall near Galveston, Texas, on Aug. 18
as a Category 3 hurricane and caused $2.6 billion worth of damage,
making it the first billion dollar storm for Texas. The name Alicia has
since been retired and will never be used to name an Atlantic hurricane
again.
