As Arthur continues to strengthen and churn in the Atlantic, East Coast beach-goers should prepare for dangerous surf, rip currents and periods of wet weather over the Fourth of July.
The first named tropical storm of the season in the Atlantic, Arthur is expected to hinder holiday plans for millions from Daytona Beach, Florida, up through Cape Cod, Massachusetts.

The brunt of Arthur is expected to be Thursday night through Friday, bringing heavy rain and high wind gusts to areas from North Carolina up through southern New England.

July 4th Atlantic Tropical Storms in History:

2008: Tropical Storm Bertha was continued to strengthen and track  northwestward in the central Atlantic.
2005: Hurricanes Dennis and Cindy took form as tropical depressions.
1997: Tropical Storm Ana weakened to a tropical depression and created strong rip currents off the North Carolina coast.
1994: Tropical Storm Alberto was reduced to a tropical depression as it moved over Alabama.
