A cold
frontal boundary will stretch from the West Coast to the Intermountain
West on Friday, while a separate cold front will extend from the
southern Plains to the eastern Great Lakes.
A cold front will push east southeastward over the northwestern corner of the country. This system will extend from northern California to southeast Montana, and is expected to bring widespread showers and thunderstorms to the Pacific Northwest, the Intermountain West, the Plains and parts of the Midwest. Severe thunderstorms will be possible over southeast Montana, northeast Wyoming, southwest North Dakota and western North Dakota. These thunderstorms will be capable of producing large hail, dangerous straight line winds and isolated tornadoes. The Desert Southwest will continue to experience warm, dry conditions due to a ridge of high pressure over the eastern Pacific.
A separate cold front will stretch from central Texas, across the lower Mississippi Valley, over the Ohio Valley and into the eastern Great Lakes region. As warm, muggy air from the Gulf of Mexico streams northward ahead of this frontal boundary, rain and thunderstorms will develop across the Gulf Coast, the Southeast, the Mid-Atlantic, the eastern Ohio Valley and the Northeast. Heavy rain associated with these thunderstorms will bring a chance of flash flooding to northern New England on Friday. High pressure will keep conditions clear across much of the southern Plains, the middle Mississippi Valley and the upper Midwest.
