Powerful thunderstorms raged across the Plains and Midwest on Saturday into Sunday morning, producing tornadoes, large hail and damaging winds.
Tornadoes were reported in Kansas and Nebraska. There were no reports of injuries.
Thousands of people lost electricity as a result of the storms that packed winds up to 86 mph. The 86 mph gust was clocked at Phillipsburg, Kansas.
The storm system also brought heavy rain to the region. Sioux Falls, South Dakota, broke its all-time 24-hour precipitation record with 4.65 inches; its old record was 4.59 inches, which was set on August 1, 1957.
