In 2009, tornadoes tore across the southern corner of the United States from the late afternoon of April 9 to the early morning hours of April 11. The tornadoes first touched down in the vicinity of eastern Oklahoma. Other tornadoes followed across the Tennessee Valley and eastward to Georgia and the Carolinas. A total of 85 tornadoes was confirmed.
