Snow and ice spread across the Northeast in the early morning hours Monday as colder air rushed down from the north, meeting up with moisture from the west.
The storm caused major air and traffic disruptions on Monday, as many of the largest hubs in the mid-Atlantic were in or near the path of the storm.
The heaviest snow--with amounts of 6 inches or so--unfolded from the West Virginia mountains to northern and central Virginia to extreme southern New Jersey.
This included Washington, D.C., Harrisonburg, Va., Dover, Del., and Atlantic City, N.J.
The majority of the snow fell during the morning and early afternoon hours on Monday. By Monday evening, a sprawling area of high pressure building in from the west, brought an end to the snow as colder, drier air moved in and the storm moved offshore.

7:00 a.m. EST Monday: An NWS-trained spotter in Perry county, Ky., reports 2 inches of snow accumulation adding up on top of half an inch of sleet that fell earlier in the storm.
6:30 a.m. EST Monday: Philadelphia's SEPTA public transport system has announced many delays to commuter trains and buses this morning.
6:00 a.m. EST Monday: Speed restrictions are in place across New Jersey, including the Ben Franklin Bridge, Walt Whitman Bridge and Atlantic City Expressway, according to New Jersey 511.

4:45 a.m. EST Monday: More than 2,100 flights have already been canceled for today nationwide, according to FlightStats.com. There have already been hundreds of cancellations in Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., alone.
4:29 a.m. EST Monday: Snow has been falling for a couple of hours in many suburbs of Washington, D.C. Traffic moving slowly along Interstate 270 near Gaithersburg.
4:09 a.m. EST Monday: Memphis Light, Gas and Water says that over 25,000 customers in the Memphis, Tenn., area are without power.
3:10 a.m. EST Monday: NES Power is reporting nearly 9,000 customers are without power in the Nashville area, where there has been some freezing rain overnight.
2:38 a.m. EST Monday: Sleet is starting to mix in with rain at Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C.
1:39 a.m. EST Monday: Rain is beginning to change to sleet and freezing rain in Baltimore and in many Washington, D.C. suburbs.

12:24 a.m. EST Monday: Six inches of sleet has fallen in Huntingdon, Tenn., according to an NWS spotter. Huntingdon is located between Memphis and Nashville.
12:15 a.m. EST Monday: Entergy Arkansas is reporting that around 10,000 customers in the western suburbs of Memphis, Tenn., are without power due to the ice.
11:45 p.m. EST Sunday: Kentucky 511 is reporting multiple accidents on Interstate 75 south of Lexington, Ky. Northbound I-75 is closed in Madison County because of a crash.
10:45 p.m. EST Sunday: Three inches of sleet has been reported in Dudley, Mo., according to an NWS spotter. Two to four inches of sleet has fallen across much of southeastern Missouri.
10:15 p.m. EST Sunday: Temperatures are nearing freezing in far northwestern suburbs of Baltimore and Washington, D.C. The rain will turn to sleet and snow over the next several hours.

8:47 a.m. EST Sunday: The official Lambert-St. Louis International Airport twitter feed reports that 41 departing flights and 18 arriving flights have been canceled so far this Sunday.

8:20 a.m. EST Sunday: AccuWeather.com meteorologists discussed the severe weather threat for later Sunday and determined that Little Rock, Ark., is not at risk but expanded the threat zone to Lake Charles, La.
