Weather Underground midday recap for Thursday,March 13,2014

A cluster of snow showers trekked across the northeastern states on Thursday, while the remainder of the country experienced relatively calm weather conditions.

As an extensive cold frontal boundary moved off of the Eastern Seaboard on Thursday, low pressure along the northern end of the front ushered moderate to heavy snow across the northeastern states. Winter storm warnings were issued across Maine, while winter weather advisories were issued in parts of New York, Vermont and Massachusetts. Sherman, Maine, reported a midday total of 20.2 inches of snow, while Dyer Brook, Maine, reported a midday total of 17.0 inches of snow. Conditions across the upper Midwest, the Ohio Valley and the Northeast were cold and blustery due to the recent cold frontal passage. Pellston, Mich, recorded a morning low of -14 degrees, while Mount Washington, N.H., recorded a morning low of -13 degrees. Light, scattered snow showers also pushed across parts of the upper Midwest and western Great Lakes on Thursday.

Meanwhile, high pressure over eastern Texas kept conditions mostly clear from the southern Plains to the Southeast. Miami, Fla., recorded a midday high of 78 degrees, while Opa Locka, Fla., recorded a midday high of 77 degrees.

Out west, a weak area of low pressure initiated light, scattered showers across the Four Corners. The remainder of the western half of the country experienced relatively calm conditions due to a ridge of high pressure over the eastern Pacific.
